Course Description: Operating system fundamentals, including history, process and thread management, concurrency with semaphores and monitors, deadlocks, storage management, file systems, I/O, and distributed systems. 2.0 hours discussion, 2.0 hours activity.

14	12/3		lab3 I will have a sign-up sheet for this wed and next wed for turning in labs. I will answer any questions at the beginning of this lab and then grade labs. (this wed is your last chance to make up any points on lab 2. Also, if you turn in lab 3 this week and if there is any problem with it I will let you fix the problem and turn it in next week instead)

Grades

Projects in this course count for 30% of your grade.
No Late Projects will be accepted. Partial credit will be given for partially working projects.
It is very important that if you are unable to complete a project that you at least get some functional pieces working. For example, 10 pages of code that actually does something is worth a lot more in partial credit than 50 pages of code that will not even compile. Credit is given for functionality and organization. Code that is broken, unorganized and undocumented will be worth almost nothing in partial credit.
Documentation of code is required. Up to 20% grade penalty for lack of documentation.

There will be 3 labs in this course

lab 1 - worth 30% of lab grade
lab 2 - worth 30% of lab grade
lab 3 - worth 40% of lab grade (please note that lab 3 is dependent upon lab2)

Everyone in a group will recieve the same grade on the project unless there are complaints about a group member. A group member may recieve less points than the other group members if they do not fully participate.

Groups

Lab 1

No groups for Lab 1.

Lab 1 will be done individually.

Lab 2 and 3

Must be done in groups of 2 to 3 people.
Everyone in group must understand all parts of project.
I will quiz each member on the code that was written as a group to see if everyone understands it.

If you can not explain how the code works you will loose points.

Attendance

Lab attendance is not required but if you do not show up you might miss out on something important and do something wrong in an assignment.
