About the Modeling and Simulation Catalog

This web-site was developed by the McLeod Institute of Simulation Sciences (MISS) at California State University, Chico as a service to the Modeling and Simulation (M & S)community. the use of modeling and simulation has become widespread over the past few years in an increasing range of disciplines: in engineering, the natural and social sciences, business studies etc. Because of the great breadth of relevant application areas, courses and programs in modeling and simulation are now offered by educational institutions in a correspondingly wide range of disciplines. As a result, a student who is interested in locating a suitable program involving M & S is faced with a difficult task. This web site aims to simplify this task by gathering together at this site information about courses and programs in M & S which is currently widely dispersed and often difficult to find.

Initially the information will be limited to a selected list of universities, including non-U.S. schools, and will be simply structured. Ultimately it is intended to develop a more comprehensive data-base with more flexible search capabilities.

The McLeod Institute of Simulation Sciences is a program of the Society for Computer Simulation International (SCSI), the primary technical society devoted to promoting the art and science of simulation. The Institute honors John Mcleod P.E., founder of the Society, which was established in 1952. SCSI has sponsored the establishment of MISS centers at institutions with a primary interest in M &S education and research. The MISS center at CSU, Chico was the first of an international network of these centers.

The development of this web-site is supported by the Defense Modeling Simulation Office (DMSO).
