To CSUC student organizations -

a message from Dr. Challinger, CSUC Liaison to the Chico Science Fair

Our goal is to provide support for school teachers who want to encourage their students to participate in the science fair, while providing Chico State students with important outreach activities. School teachers will be able to request a presentation for a class at a specific grade level on "How to do a Science Fair Project in __________." Insert your favorite scientific discipline!

What your student organization will need to do:

  • be aware of the specific requirements for science fair projects - see
    http://www.ecst.csuchico.edu/csf/guidelines.pdf

  • develop a 40-50 minute demonstration on how to do a high quality science fair project in your discipline
    • posterboards and props are best, you may not have a computer projection system
    • the more fun and interactive, the better!
    • example projects are a good idea
    • consider how you can adapt your presentation to different age groups
    • stress the application of the scientific method (Category I projects)

  • have teams of two or three students from your organization who are prepared to visit classrooms between September 1, 2007 and April 1, 2008

  • store the demonstration materials in a safe place for use by student members in subsequent years

Dr. Challinger would be happy to speak at a meeting of your organization. Contact her at jchallinger@csuchico.edu or by phone at 530-898-6357.
